The Tragedy of Macbeth, “The Scottish Play,” arrives in Huntington Beach, just in time to remind us (as if we needed more reminding) of the delusions of illegitimately achieved power, the blowback of self-serving prophecy and the importance of reading the details in any divination. Witches deliver what seems good news to Macbeth, Thane of Glamis, who constructs his ascendency to kingship built on murder, eventually driving both he and his missus into paranoia and eventually becoming, well, insane. Seriously, Shakespeare does spooky descent into madness better than anybody, with lots of blood, a ghost and a punishment fit for a fraud king. Tonight at Golden West College and, yes, tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow, or at least next weekend.
