Directed by UCI Masters in Fine Arts Directing Candidate Melissa Livingston, who was a teen mom herself, “Life After Birth” is a community theatrical play that addresses head on this often overlooked taboo topic. Through the play, which Melissa wrote and directs, she intends to shed light on the subject of teen pregnancy and the stigma associated with it.
The play tells the stories of seven pregnant teens in Orange County in very different situations but all have one thing in common. They all find their way to Mary’s Shelter, a safe haven in Tustin for pregnant teens to find dignity, learn self-sufficiency and leave with restored hope. Mary’s Shelter offered each one an opportunity for change.
