Back in the olden days when surfing was a young sport and not the highly corporate to-do it is today, access to surfing spots in coastal communities was rare and surfers gathered together to stoke their passions for big waves, wipeouts and surf wax. The Surfing Heritage & Culture Center out of San Clemente commemorates the history and backstory behind some of these clubs based locally and out of Hawaii, some— like the “Club of the Waves” Hui Nalu crew and the Outrigger Canoe Club— which are still very much active today. Walk through the different exhibits and vote for your favorite display, which will be announced in June!
