San Pedro-based artist Barbara Strasen's latest exhibition at Long Beach Museum of Art is sure to affect everyone differently, as her mixed-media collage work shifts in appearance depending on the person's point of view. Strasen navigates through the worlds of natural history, anatomy, animals, space and fireworks combined in thoughtfully-produced collages composed of paintings layered over inkjet prints along with Plexiglass, Tyvek and lenticular lenses to understand the link between nature and technology. Traditional and non-traditional materials and opposing ideologies work hand in hand in these juxtapositions, exposing Strasen's curiosity about the connection between natural and man-made worlds. Tallying up to twenty-four colorful works and two installations, Strasen's 'Layer by Layer' continues her long career of producing complex works to trigger public fascination and imagination.
