Dr. Jim Spickard, Professor of Sociology at University of Redlands, will be joining us for an Author Meets Critics Forum, Wednesday, April 12, 2017.

The event will take place at Argyros Forum 201 from 7:00-9:00 pm.

The focus will be on Dr. Spickard's new book, “Alternative Sociologies of Religion: Through Non-Western Eyes,” which is being published by New York University Press in February 2017. Dr. Larry Iannaccone, Director of the Institute for the Study of Religion, Economics, and Society and Professor of Economics, and Dr. Tekle Woldemikael, Professor, Department of Sociology, will be the critics.

This forum will provide Dr. Spickard & Dr. Iannaccone with an opportunity for a face-to-face conversation by using the book as a text for discussion and exploration. The event will be intellectually stimulating and provide riveting dialog between two seasoned scholars. They are both passionate about the sociology of religion, however they approach the subject from two contrasting perspectives. Dr. Iannaccone embraces a rational theory approach to Religion, while Dr. Spickard approaches it from more a cultural and a comparative approach.
