http://www.avecnightclub.com Born from the ashes of what used to be the old Majestic, a venue that once hosted Vietnamese pop concerts, this Huntington Beach nightclub retains few characteristics of its former incarnation save for its address and general layout. The club's interior is intimately sized and dimly lit with soft purples and blues. The centerpiece is an installation mimicking a giant tree that sprouts from the central elliptical bar and stretches to the ceiling. Crystal prisms drip from its boughs like luminescent leaves, creating a striking fixture that makes you feel as though you've just stepped through the proverbial looking glass. Arrive before 10:30 p.m. for half off the usual $20 cover, and opt for VIP bottle service so you don't have to regret paying $12 for a Long Island iced tea. This also secures you a comfy roost in one of the Victorian-inspired seating areas, from which you can watch the action going down on both dance floors. Seasoned DJs host weekend events, spinning the best in hip-hop, dance, house, electronic and magnificent mash-ups that keep the energy up and the bodies bumping. More >>

    Brewbakers

http://www.brewbakers1.com Hops and yeast. These two substances, which we tragically take for granted, find their spotlight at this delightfully understated bakery and brewery. Discretely located in a seemingly stagnant Huntington Beach warehouse strip, Brewbaker's allows you to create your own blends of mouth-watering beer and nosh on a slice of freshly baked pizza at the same time. While the personal beer-making process is the main attraction, owner Dennis Midden maintains that baking is his first love, and a chomp through his pretzels-chewy loops with a perfect crustiness and enough salt to enhance the taste but not cover it-confirms it. Despite its short hours, Brewbaker's is usually packed with patrons in the evenings and offers an intimate atmosphere and great conversation from the slightly eccentric staff. Come for the food and brews, but stay for the fun! More >>

http://www.fitzgeraldsoc.com Eat here when you go for the live music, but be prepared to lay out funds for the drinks. The service is decent, but the crowd can be a little unnerving. More >>

http://www.gallagherspub.com If you're looking for an Irish pub in downtown Huntington Beach, Gallagher's rocks the vibe. Decked out in dark wood floors, stools and bar top, this spot is known for its proximity to the Pacific, live entertainment from Irish-flavored bands such as the American Wake, and stiff drinks from a full bar. For those who prefer sudsier libations, Gallagher's also have a moderate selection of draft brews, some with Irish flair such as Stella and Guinesss, and some enjoyed by long-descended offspring of the Emerald Isle (i.e. PBR.) Huntington Beach Art Center

    714-374-1650

http://www.huntingtonbeachartcenter.org The Huntington Beach Art Center is a gallery in Huntington Beach. About a mile from the famous pier, you will find a serene piece of art heaven on the corner of Main & Acacia. This art center is much larger than it looks, offering a nice change of pace from typical beach life. The center usually concentrates on local artists, but every once in a while pulls off great exhibits that its better-funded cousins in Newport Beach and Laguna Beach host. Did we mention it’s free? It’s a great place to take the family, or for a first date with someone you think could be The One—or even for an evening with your friends. Catch a wonderful open air exhibit by local professional watercolor and oil painters and snag exhibition paintings that usually sell for reasonable prices. And it’s actually one of the easiest places to park in all of HB. More >>

http://www.martiniblues.com Everything looks great coming out of the kitchen of this bona-fide supper club, and we can personally vouch for the Martini Blues Favorite?a rotelli pasta with chicken or shrimp, sun-dried tomatoes, mushrooms and bell peppers in a spicy chipotle Alfredo sauce. Like all dinners, it comes with soup or salad; steamed vegetables; and a choice of garlic mashed potatoes, angel hair pasta or rice pilaf. More >>

  • Shorebreak Hotel

    Shorebreak Hotel

500 Pacific Coast Highway Huntington Beach, CA 92648
    866-942-5091

http://www.shorebreakhotel.com Make no mistake: More luxe and lavish hotels exist in Orange County, ones with sateen linens and marble floors. But the Shorebreak wins bonus points for realizing some guests are more likely to need a place to store a surfboard than a truffle on the pillow. Part of the stylish Joie de Vivre family, this boutique hotel embraces its location—smack-dab in the heart of downtown Huntington Beach— and plays to the whole Surf City USA theme in a way that's fun and kitschy, never cheesy. It's a sweet haven for surfers, with conditions posted on a chalkboard next to the check-in counter, the Riptionary replacing the Bible in dresser drawers, and board rentals offered at the front desk. For everyone else, the experience is just as memorable. There are outdoor fire pits at which you can sit and roast marshmallows, as well as a "pet butler" service for those who've brought their furry friends. You can also find live music in the lounge on the second Sunday of every month. The ultra-modern rooms aren't too shabby either, with stunning ocean views and amenities such as super-deep tubs and double showerheads. The only thing missing is a pool, but just across the street is the best one: the ocean. More >>
