    601 Bar and Grill

    601 S. Raymond Ave. Fullerton, CA 92831
    714-871-7390

While playing a game of pool and enjoying a stiff drink at Fullerton bar Bananas, it's hard to imagine this joint has changed much over the decades. The large room is covered by vaulted wood ceilings supported by a lattice work of beams. Ceiling fans twirl, tube televisions flicker, and suds are slung. The crowd features a nice mix of young and veteran imbibers. Bananas offers a small selection of draft beers, but the liquor lineup at the full bar is impressive. Distractions include three pool tables and a couple of electronic dartboards. Thursday nights see performances from local bands; this old dog actually allows for some good acoustics. More >>

    The Continental Room

115 W. Santa Fe Ave. Fullerton, CA 92832
    714-469-1879

http://www.facebook.com/ContinentalRoom Tucked away on a tiny side street in downtown Fullerton, the Continental Room doesn't look like much from the outside, but the blah exterior masks the drop-dead sexy lounge within. The interior is reminiscent of a lush, red-lit, turn of the century boudoir. The Continental Room opened in 1925, and though it served as a simple beer bar, it's still gets the title of oldest watering hole in the city. Bands and DJs play regularly on the small circular stage in the corner of the club. More >>

  • The Pint House

    The Pint House

    136 W. Wilshire Ave. Fullerton, CA 92832
    714-525-7468

http://www.thepinthouse.com In the evolutionary time line of bars, the Pint House blazes its own path. It calls itself "an upscale American-style pub and restaurant without an upscale price," but let us translate: It's more Cheers than Moe's Tavern, more burger joint than gastropub. Regulars, or maybe those crazy college kids from nearby Fullerton College, order the Power Tower, an oversized beer dispenser the height and shape of a gigantic lava lamp. The house-baked soft pretzels are the defining mouthful of the night; the twisty, well-browned doughy loops are the natural symbiotic partner to anything hop-based you should drink. So oven-hot they burn the epidermis off your fingertips and crusted with perhaps too much salt, they will, as in that oft-quoted Seinfeld episode, make you thirsty. More >>
