http://anaheim.angels.mlb.com If you want to really know something about OC arena concert culture, you might naturally be swayed to visit behemoths like the Honda Center or the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater. But until you’ve seen Bono, Kenney Chesney, the Black Eyed Peas, or some other block buster zeitgeist rock out on the freshly manicured grass of Angel’s Stadium, you have no idea what the true definition of “Americana” is. Nothing like a gargantuan production, complete with guitar solos fireworks, to make you proud to live in the good ‘ol U.S. of A. Next time something big comes to town, we highly suggest you grab a little extra beer money (Lord knows drinks here are expensive) and plop your butt into one of the stadium’s 43,000+ seats and enjoy the show. http://www.allages.com Remember when you were 17 and all you wanted to do was to be able to see your favorite band that never played any all-ages venue? EVER? Well the Chain Reaction solves all that. This is like the introductory venue for every band that passes through Orange County--everyone's played the Chain at some point in their careers. It's a small, slightly dingy venue located in a sketchy Anaheim shopping center surrounded by car dealerships. The floors are sticky, the stage is small, dusty T-shirts of bands that have played the venue grace the walls and any space that's free is covered in bumper stickers. But since when was rock and roll ever clean? This place is a no-fuss, straight to the point venue where covers are cheap and indie bands are frequent. Everyone wins. More >>
http://www.citynationalgroveofanaheim.com Across the parking lot from Angel Stadium stands the exemplary Grove of Anaheim. The front looks a bit like a 1920s movie studio while inside is lavishly decorated in retro elegance. Booking several shows a week, the Grove's entertainment ranges from music to comedy. The showroom design is especially notable: The audience chooses from a series of elevated floor sections enabling even those in the very back to see the stage. More >>
http://www.emberofanaheim.com An oasis of visually appealing modern design in the midst of a seemingly random automotive district in Anaheim. On the up-side, Ember Cafe & Music Club supplies a classy atmosphere with ample room to move on the dance floor. The down-side is the usual $20 cover fee usually reserved for Los Angeles clubs and the mandatory valet parking at the door. If you managed to cope with those two buzz kills, this club offers a sleek environment with relatively cheap drinks where you can comfortable kick back with a gang of friends and dance the night away. http://www.hondacenter.com/default.aspx Yeah, this place is used to being the home of the Ducks, but things can get a whole lot rowdier when they clear off the ice and set up the stage. Home to the biggest--and we mean Springsteen-sized— concerts in OC, the Honda Center is the mecca for those looking for the iconic concert experience. Across the street from Angel’s Stadium, this “Grade A” big box venue houses both state of the art sound and grand stable of concession stands food and beer that’s not just, well, food and beer. On the way to your seats at the next trip to see The Who, Rihanna of the Killers, stop off at Blue Water grill and grab a craft brew, a lobster roll or the one of the best cheesteaks in OC. All of that will go down nicely while you’re fist pumping to your heart’s content. More >>
http://www.hob.com/anaheim Arguably one of Orange County's best music venues, this House of Blues location is right in the middle of Downtown Disney. Though it's surrounded by toy stores, themed restaurants and other tourist traps, the bands that grace the stage here represent the top names in punk, metal and hardcore—as well as country, blues and pop. Aside from its superb sound system, House of Blues is also known for mixing up strong drinks from its full bar, which houses top-shelf labels such as Maker's Mark and Ketel One. If beer is better suited to your tastes, they have a nice selection of drafts, and their canned brews, which include PBR and Budweiser, come in the tall variety. The second floor balcony features seats and bar stools sometimes free for the sittin' (for popular shows, you'll have to be VIP, though, sorry). Unfortunately you have to pay for parking and tickets, unlike the dive bar down the street, but it's a well-kept venue and you wont find entertainment like this at your local hole in the wall. http://www.thejukejointbar.com Every good rocker bar needs not only a steady stream of dudes clad in tight jeans and leather vests, but also a dose of the lovely rocker-chick aesthetic: a mix of 1950s girliness (red lipstick, very high heels, sky-high bouffants) and modern-day feminist rebel (select body piercings and fiery tattoos). The Juke Joint has both, all hanging out in a long, narrow, boxcar-shaped, predominantly black space that offers great views of the axe-wielding ass-kickers on stage. (DJs? What are those?) And the rawk goes down much smoother with one of those huge, cold bottles of $6 Croatian beer from the Joint's lively bartenders. More >>
http://www.liquidloungelongbeach.com How can you have fun at any venue with a sign that explicitly states, "No Dancing?" With a beer-pong table, karaoke machine and dirt-cheap prices; that's how! The liquid lounge is by no means your average fancy-pants downtown LBC hangout. The folks are local, the staff is welcoming and you're the type who enjoys getting more bang for your buck, this is the place to get it. With good drinks at the prices they offer, it's probably a good thing they've got that "No Dancing" sign up to save you from any potential embarrassment. The bar is small; just your average neighborhood pub, but the crowd is diverse and lively. If you find yourself needing a breather, just step outside. You won't be lonely. There are probably just as many people socializing in the parking lot as there are inside of the bar! More >>
