Located adjacent to the rapidly-moving traffic on Beach Boulevard, Bar Hookup is easy to miss. It's also really small. Inside, red paper lanterns hanging from the ceiling evoke the far east. Rumor has it, the building formerly housed a brothel. A large picture of James Spader from the film Less than Zero sits over the bar surrounded by candles and the room is dominated by a concrete dance floor ringed by a plush, red wrap-around bench. Featuring a full liquor offering this spot also serves up a small selection of brews on tap including: Blue Moon, Newcastle and Pyramid Hef. More refined palettes will enjoy craft beers in the bottle including Boatswain IPA, Baltika Beer, and Red Stripe( Miller High Life is also available.) http://www.brewbakers1.com Hops and yeast. These two substances, which we tragically take for granted, find their spotlight at this delightfully understated bakery and brewery. Discretely located in a seemingly stagnant Huntington Beach warehouse strip, Brewbaker's allows you to create your own blends of mouth-watering beer and nosh on a slice of freshly baked pizza at the same time. While the personal beer-making process is the main attraction, owner Dennis Midden maintains that baking is his first love, and a chomp through his pretzels-chewy loops with a perfect crustiness and enough salt to enhance the taste but not cover it-confirms it. Despite its short hours, Brewbaker's is usually packed with patrons in the evenings and offers an intimate atmosphere and great conversation from the slightly eccentric staff. Come for the food and brews, but stay for the fun! Read more about this Orange County bar or club >>
http://www.centerfieldsportsbar.com Located a short driving distance from Huntington Beach's main drag, Centerfield Sports Bar & Grill feels like it's a world away from the teeming downtown scene. Sports other than surfing are king here, and the crowd is well-behaved. The large room's windows are bedecked with handsome wooden shutters, and 20 flat-screen TVs adorn the walls. The respectable offering of brews on tap includes Pyramid Hef, PBR and Longboard ale; a full complement of liquors is also available. Other distractions include three pool tables, the ever-addictive video game Golden Tee and two dartboards. Enthusiasts of this last game might find themselves doing a double take, as the boards at Centerfield are the real deal-totally analog. Read more about this Orange County bar or club >>
http://www.gallagherspub.com If you're looking for an Irish pub in downtown Huntington Beach, Gallagher's rocks the vibe. Decked out in dark wood floors, stools and bar top, this spot is known for its proximity to the Pacific, live entertainment from Irish-flavored bands such as the American Wake, and stiff drinks from a full bar. For those who prefer sudsier libations, Gallagher's also have a moderate selection of draft brews, some with Irish flair such as Stella and Guinesss, and some enjoyed by long-descended offspring of the Emerald Isle (i.e. PBR.) http://www.hbbeerco.com Like any brewpub, the things to get are simple American fare (try the Ortega burger or the fish and chips) and the house beer, especially the HB Blonde, which is very refreshing after a day out in the surf. Read more about this Orange County bar or club >>
http://www.hurricanesbargrill.com Located on the second floor of the buildings that line Main Street in Huntington Beach, Hurricanes Bar & Grill combines the atmosphere of a lounge with the energy of a club. The joint features a dance floor made of squares that light up at varying intervals, reminiscent of John Travolta's famous dance scene in Saturday Night Fever. The bar offers a respectable selection of draft beers, including a beer of the month; a full liquor selection, with specialty cocktails and martinis; and Fetzer Valley Oaks wines by the glass. Granite tabletops and leather booths line the outdoor patio. Along with happy hour, Hurricanes also has Power Hour from 9 to 10 p.m. every night, with $2 off every cocktail. The gray exterior and lack of windows on this joint can definitely lead one to write it off as "seedy" before even taking a peek inside. But if you do dare venture inside, you'll see its just like any other local dive. The patrons generally know one another, the tenders are friendly and the drinks (and there are a good amount of them) are cheap. Hy Roy's is definitely a neighborhood bar, but it does have its charm. The checkered ceiling and red wallpaper give it an interesting look. There's even a jukebox there for good measure. Go there with buddies to shoot the breeze, shoot some pool, shoot some darts(you get the point) and enjoy a mean list of beers. Read more about this Orange County bar or club >>
http://www.johnnyssaloon.com If you're looking for one of Orange County's premiere rockabilly hangouts, Johnny's Saloon is the swinging spot. Located in the corner of a strip mall, the front facade is adorned with a massive POW sign reminding patrons to thank a veteran for their freedom. To say the interior is dimly lit would be an understatement. The room is bathed in a low-key red glow and the walls are adorned with concert posters and punk rock graffiti. Be mindful of where you step: It gets crowded, especially on weekends. Girls and guys don their finest vintage threads and enjoy music from the jukebox that blares everything from Morrissey to Johnny Cash. The full bar serves up a wide assortment of fruity concoctions including a Lemonhead featuring vodka, fresh-squeezed lemons and (of course) Lemonheads candy sprinkled around the rim of the glass. http://www.killarneypubandgrill.com A mix between a sports bar and an Irish pub, Killarney is also an official Raiders bar, supporting the NFL team that wasn't always based in Oakland. The bar often hosts some of the team's greatest players while showing the games. But the décor goes beyond silver and black. Offsetting the dark greens and browns of the furniture, a few dozen black-and-white boxing photos line the wall behind the booths. Along with an expansive liquor selection, the bar offers up a respectable selection of draft brews including Stella, Boddington's, Sierra Nevada and Fat Tire. Though located in Surf City, Kit's Bar is worlds away from the bro-heavy hangouts of Main Street. This Beach Boulevard-adjacent sports dive dispenses with flashy club-night gimmickry in favor of the essentials: cold beer, stiff drinks and three pool tables. The simple, wood-paneled room is typically filled with locals, some crustier than others, but quality recreation abounds. In addition to the tables, there are four dart boards as well as 12 small TVs ringing the room's upper walls (though some beam images of the parking lot.) There's a moderate selection of beers served in the bottle and a small selection on tap including: Budweiser, Coors Light, Stella, and Sierra Nevada. Read more about this Orange County bar or club >>
http://www.mainstreetwinecompany.com The name tells you exactly what makes this venue distinct from its beer-and-booze-driven neighbors. The knowledgeable staff will chat with you and tell you anything you want to know about the bottles they offer. A granite-topped bar, a handful of tables made from large glass plates and old wooden wine casks add rustic charm. One flat screen sits at the end of the room playing Lakers games and other sporting events. Cheese, meat and hummus plates are offered, as well as a few craft beers. Bottles of wine range from under $10 to more than $150. Read more about this Orange County bar or club >>
http://www.maxsportsgrill.com Max's Sports Grill has a lot going on in the way of distractions, not the least of which are pretty, heavily-inked cocktail waitresses. It's sort of the hallmark of this spot. Small and dimly lit, but clean, this spot also has two pool tables and a room ringed by 17 flat-screen TVs. The full bar also serves up a decent offering of bottled and draft beers. Spigots here frequently pour Stella, Newcastle, and Guiness. But perhaps best of all, the waitresses are down-to-earth, friendly and actually make an effort to get to know the people they serve before collecting their tips. http://www.hboconnells.com O’Connel’s Sports Bar in Huntington Beach is just one of the many bars in the city, but it’s one of the better ones. In the corner of a strip mall containing a 7-Eleven and a doughnut shop, O'Connell's Sports Bar & Grille doesn't look like much from the parking lot. But upon entering, one is faced with literally dozens of TVs, all tuned to every possible sporting event happening on the planet, an ultra-casual and relaxed atmosphere, and the most unbelievably friendly bartenders—ones who remember that when you ask for your "usual," you mean a Heineken Light and a shot of Jack. A lengthy bar surrounded by some wooden tables and chairs—it's not fancy; it's just comfortable. O'Connell's is the perfect place for when you want to meet up with your buds for an hour of power and simply chill out. No mixologist revolution here—just good, great times with good, great, cheap booze. Read more about this Orange County bar or club >>
http://www.huntingtonbeach.hyatt.com/hyatt/hotels/entertainment/lounges/index.jsp When mulling over which bar to check out in Huntington Beach, if the lounge at the Hyatt isn't near the top of your list, you're missing out, especially if you would rather avoid the sandy-footed board-short crowd so common to Main Street establishments. Here, you can enjoy a quiet drink within merlot-colored walls housing leather, high-back chairs. Warmth comes from a roaring fireplace; massive saucer-shaped chandeliers hover overhead. Red Chair features a signature drink menu and offers a moderate wine and bottled-beer selection (sorry, no draft). If you plan on parking on the hotel property, valet is your only option-but the bar validates parking for up to three hours. Read more about this Orange County bar or club >>
