Nadine's Irish Mist

Nadine's Irish Mist

The live bands and karaoke nights hosted at Nadine's usually lay waste to Sunset Beach's sleepy reputation. But it's all in good fun at this rocking Irish pub.
Schooner at Sunset

Schooner at Sunset

Don't let the nautical theme fool you, there will be no stale grog served here. Rather you can choose from a sizable offering of craft brews and signature cocktails.
Crow's Cocktail's

Crow's Cocktail's

Yes this place holds about 50, but don't worry, handsome mirrors lend this joint the illusion of size. Enjoy a full bar, brews on tap and the eloquence of dive chic.

    Red Chair Lounge

21500 Pacific Coast Highway Huntington Beach, CA 92648
    714-698-1234

http://www.huntingtonbeach.hyatt.com/hyatt/hotels/entertainment/lounges/index.jsp When mulling over which bar to check out in Huntington Beach, if the lounge at the Hyatt isn't near the top of your list, you're missing out, especially if you would rather avoid the sandy-footed board-short crowd so common to Main Street establishments. Here, you can enjoy a quiet drink within merlot-colored walls housing leather, high-back chairs. Warmth comes from a roaring fireplace; massive saucer-shaped chandeliers hover overhead. Red Chair features a signature drink menu and offers a moderate wine and bottled-beer selection (sorry, no draft). If you plan on parking on the hotel property, valet is your only option-but the bar validates parking for up to three hours. Read more about this Orange County bar or club >>

  • Red Fox Sports Bar

    Red Fox Sports Bar

5591 Lincoln Ave. Cypress, CA 90630
    714-484-0788

As sport's bars go, Red Fox relies on the basics. A flat-screen TV, one pool table, a couple dart boards and stiff drinks. Stop by here before five on a weekday and the place is likely to be empty, which works well for those looking for a quiet drink. But on any given night, this place is hopping with sports fans and imbibers. Monday through Thursday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., the bar serves $3 domestic pints, well drinks and shots. The room is simply configured: a bar, several cocktail tables in front of that, all the seats perfect for catching the game. If you want to get your own game on, a couple of electric dartboards beckon from the corner. Read more about this Orange County bar or club >>

  • Red Room

    Red Room

1277 4th St., Long Beach Long Beach, CA 90802
    562-432-4241

http://www.redroomrocks.com The only one of the Long Beach 4th street bars that routinely boasts a line to get in, Red Room is worth it-if you get there before everyone else does. Floor to ceiling red decor (surprise!)... or is it just the red light bulbs used to illuminate the place? There's a pool table in the center, but nights are usually too crowded to even consider playing a game. Weekends sport some pretty decent DJs, but if you're not in the mood to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the LB hipsters, stumble about 10 feet down the street to punk rock dive bar Fern's. The menu starts with such appetizers as crab cakes and fried macaroni & cheese and continues with full courses like steak, lamb chops, ribs and lobster fettucine. The live entertainment is anything but background music, with regular gigs by local jazz stalwarts like Joe Lo Piccolo, Peter Smith, Doug MacDonald, Louis Van Taylor and Diane Hubka. The daily performances often include up to three sets per night. There is no cover, but reservations are recommended, especially for diners who want to sit near the stage. Rocks

26022 Cape Drive Laguna Niguel, CA 92677
    949-582-5909

Rocks in Laguna Niguel is nestled in an industrial office park next to a bakery that supplies cookie dough for local elementary-school fund-raisers, Rocks draws a fuck-it-all crowd looking for a night it'll hardly remember. It's a dimly lit, black-walled, many-mirrored adult playground: There's shuffleboard, darts, a wide dance floor, raging karaoke and, most crucially, $2 drink deals on Thursdays. And they have a great house band: while banging their heads behind sprawling waves of cascading hair, guitarists Justin Suitor and Jeff Lyman pluck out a nimble interplay of classic-rock-era riffage in the vein of AC/DC mixed with psychedelic, reverb-laden ambiance. While their songs sound great on an iPod, their live shows are the main event: Witness Suitor abandoning the stage to howl amongst the metal monkeys in the pit. Interesting side note: Suitor demonstrates his range of talent and lends his songwriting services to local pop band Honeypie. Read more about this Orange County bar or club >>

  • Rose Canyon Cantina

    Rose Canyon Cantina

20722 Rose Canyon Road Trabuco Canyon, CA 92678
    949-766-6939

http://www.rosecanyoncantina.com Rose Canyon Cantina is a bar in Trabuco Canyon. If you've never had a real margarita, this will strike you as wildly unbalanced and sour; it's supposed to be. You're supposed to get a hit of sweetness from the Cointreau, a punch between the eyeballs from the tequila blanco, and a mouthful of sour to help it down, and this delivers. It isn't perfect--it isn't shaken, it's got a lot of swiftly-melting shell ice in it, and it's twice the size it should be--but you know what, one of those and an order of surprisingly good ceviche, and you're set for a lazy afternoon out in the last vestiges of rural Orange County.
