http://www.nadinesirishmist.com Nadine's Irish Mist is a pub born of a desire by its proprietors to escape the cold environs of the Emerald Isle. At least, according to the legend. In any event, they could have done worse than to open a business in the sand-swept, golden-hued goodness of beautiful Sunset Beach. Nadine's interior is covered in rich, dark wood, with recesses bearing flat-screen TVs and features a full liquor offering as well as 18 brews on tap. Many of these hail from the land of leprechauns and include Smithwick's, Harp and Guinness in addition to the delicious English pub ale Boddington's. Carrying on the Irish tradition of serving up good times to go along with an alcohol selection, Nadine's frequently hosts karaoke nights and live entertainment from bands including the Mulligans, Dick Deluxe and Dullahan Rogue. http://www.ocsportsgrill.com Located near Angels Stadium, OC Sports Grill subscribes to the adage that bigger is better. This cavernous place is home to 19 beers on top; thirsty sports fans have their choice of such gems as Pyramid Hefeweizen, Blue Moon, Newcastle and Bud Light, in addition to a full complement of liquors. While sipping a pint, sports fans also have the option of watching one of several flat-screen TVs (we lost count after 15), shooting stick on one of six pool tables, or partaking in a game of Golden Tee Live. For groups of drinkers, the bar offers the 100-ounce "Tower of Beer," a clear tube with a tap set up at your table that can be filled with your choice of brew (a tower of Coors will run you $28.50). http://www.newportbeachbrewingcompany.com Any brewery with its city's name in the title needs to do two things: attract locals, and get them drunk. That's what happens at Newport Beach Brewing Co., where the bros and bro-ettes of the county's glitziest burg congregate either before or instead of a night in the clubs at the tip of the peninsula. But unlike so much in coastal OC, there's not much pretense here. The crowd is pretty, yeah, but everyone's dressed casually. The menu is as massive and as greasy as you'd like. The digs are spacious, inviting and smell only slightly of seafood (the place used to be a fish market). The beers? Meticulously crafted for tastiness. What's not to love about a Newport Beach blonde? Read more about this Orange County bar or club >>
Calling itself "Orange County's Premier Dive Bar," Newport Five is as "divey" as they come. The dimly lit joint houses a pool table in each of its dark, wood-paneled corners. If you're not into shooting stick, there are also dart boards, TVs, and a well-stocked juke box. The beer selection is a tad lacking-with only five labels on draft, including Shock Top, MGD and Coors Light-but this is a cocktail lounge, and luckily, Newport Five pours a stiff drink. Happy hour is Monday through Friday (from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.), with drink specials on bottled and draft beers. Read more about this Orange County bar or club >>
