  • Huntington Beach Beer Company

    Huntington Beach Beer Company

201 Main St. Huntington Beach, CA 92648
714-960-5343 Like any brewpub, the things to get are simple American fare (try the Ortega burger or the fish and chips) and the house beer, especially the HB Blonde, which is very refreshing after a day out in the surf. More >>

250 Ogle St., Costa Mesa, CA Costa Mesa, CA 92627

  • JT Schmid

    JT Schmid's Restaurant & Brewery

2415 Park Ave. Tustin, CA 92782
714-258-0333 From a light and flowery India Pale Ale to a deep, rich and bitter stout, JT Schmid's is a local brewer that pours its own hand-crafted beers just like others in its genre. Their house Hef is lemony and sips as refreshingly as a summer breeze. Happy Hours are the time to come and enjoy a pint in the company of friends, co-workers, or that pre-first date meet-up you'd rather not do at Starbucks. If you didn't know the place was brewery/restaurant, you'd half expect them to serve expensive steaks--the dining room is stylishly dark. The fried foods are excessively portioned, designed to keep you munching and thirsty enough to ask for more beer. Only this Tustin store offers the Happy Hour deals--something the older Anaheim store doesn't. More >>

  • Karl Strauss Brewery

    Karl Strauss Brewery

901 S. Coast Drive Costa Mesa, CA 92626
714-546-BREW You can excuse most patrons of this Costa Mesa restaurant if all they concentrate on is getting hammered heavenly. After all, the Karl Strauss brewing process is so refined it could probably make a fine lager out of Santa Ana River water. But to obsess over their brews does disservice to their smoky steaks, surprisingly tasteful salads and magnificent hoagies. More >>

    Main Street Wine Co.

301 Main St. Huntington Beach, CA 92648
714-969-7400 The name tells you exactly what makes this venue distinct from its beer-and-booze-driven neighbors. The knowledgeable staff will chat with you and tell you anything you want to know about the bottles they offer. A granite-topped bar, a handful of tables made from large glass plates and old wooden wine casks add rustic charm. One flat screen sits at the end of the room playing Lakers games and other sporting events. Cheese, meat and hummus plates are offered, as well as a few craft beers. Bottles of wine range from under $10 to more than $150. More >>

Well, the Newport Beach Brewing Company offers plenty of options for those after anything from a fine night on the town to something to take the edge off all that sweet, sweet beer. • Newport Beach Brewing Company

    Newport Beach Brewing Company

2920 Newport Blvd. Newport Beach, CA 92663
949-675-8449 Any brewery with its city's name in the title needs to do two things: attract locals, and get them drunk. That's what happens at Newport Beach Brewing Co., where the bros and bro-ettes of the county's glitziest burg congregate either before or instead of a night in the clubs at the tip of the peninsula. But unlike so much in coastal OC, there's not much pretense here. The crowd is pretty, yeah, but everyone's dressed casually. The menu is as massive and as greasy as you'd like. The digs are spacious, inviting and smell only slightly of seafood (the place used to be a fish market). The beers? Meticulously crafted for tastiness. What's not to love about a Newport Beach blonde? More >>

  • Pizza Port

    Pizza Port

301 N. El Camino Real San Clemente, CA 92672
949-940-0005 Pizza Port is a pizzeria in San Clemente that, in a city filled with them, makes their mark with gigantic slices and a friendly atmosphere. While taking the kids to their favorite pizza place is well and good, sometimes the priority is a quality beer to go with Mom and Dad's dinner. Few pizza restaurants brew their own beers as tasty as Pizza Port, which won our editorial 2010 Best Beer Selection. This San Diego-based brewery/pizzeria features guest beers as well as in-house brews to pair with a selection of flavor-boosted topping combinations in the thick, chewy, gourmet, all-American style of pizza. They also sell white pizza. There's no tomato sauce; it's brushed with garlic olive oil, and the pizzeria-standard mozzarella is punctuated with dollops of surprisingly good ricotta cheese. The only thing that would make it better is vegetables--either sautéed spinach or slices of good fresh tomato would be authentic and awesome. More >>
