Whiteboy James and the Blues Express

This month at Harvelle's, that excellent retro-throwback gin joint in Long Beach, their Wednesday night residency belongs to Whiteboy James and the Blues Express. The raucous blues gang first made a name in the late '80s and '90s, when Southern California encountered a wave of new blues music. After a few years off in the middle, they regrouped in 2006 and haven't slowed to catch their breath, ultimately making them one of the area's hardest-working blues acts. Heavily influenced by the likes of Cab Calloway, Jerry Lee Lewis and Big Joe Turner, Whiteboy James and the Blues Express promise that you don't just hear their music, “You experience it. You feel it. You dance on a lot of broken glass.” Sounds like a party.
