Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?

As perhaps the finest example of the Grand Guignol film genre (stylized horror movies that contain heightened acting, melodrama and theatrical effects), director Robert Aldrich’s cult-crazy psychological thriller pitted two of Hollywood’s most adored silver screen queens against each other in one of the most disturbing, gory-glorious ego-matches ever recorded on celluloid. With dual nominations for best actress forthcoming, Bette Davis and Joan Crawford stunned the world in 1962 when they agreed to as appear nasty, old and vicious as any rodent about to be cooked up for dinner (also forthcoming). Rumored clashes on the set and a pop single of the show’s title recorded by Davis only helped cement this fantastic freak fest into the hearts of millions. Catch it post-Halloween for one last scream!
