War Horse

When the Tony committee decides to give you a special award, not one in a category, for your outstanding work—well, that's one of the highest honors in theater. And War Horse well deserved it for the most brilliant puppeteering we've ever seen. If you missed the Oscar-nominated 2011 smash film adaptation, War Horse is the novel by Michael Morpurgo about an English boy named Albert whose beloved horse is enlisted in World War I. The horse ends up fighting for both sides before being lost in "no-man's land," but Albert is on a quest to save his dearest friend. Now, if you're the kind who gets easily upset regarding animals (maybe you teared up in Benji when the bad guy kicked that little dog. Because we might have), just try not to make a fool of yourself in the theater. War Horse is hailed as "thearical magic" and the "theater event of the decade"—you're going to cry, but it's worth it.
