Urban Arts Festival

In 2007, UC Irvine’s Hip Hop Congress (HCC) joined the Associated Students of University of California Irvine (ASUCI) to bring together young talents of one of this generation’s unique cultures through multiple arts mediums—which included graffiti displays, break-dancing, and free-style competitions. Blackalicious, two Oakland musicians who collaborate their mastermind rhymes and beats, were a huge success at UCI’s Urban Arts Festival back in ‘07—and now, three years later, HCC and ASUCI are ready to do it again with live performances by Zion I and Aloe Blacc. This year’s festival will have turntables open to the public as well as MCs for some entertaining free-verse. The Urban Arts Festival expects to live up to its solid reputation so check it out—and learn to scratch a turntable while you’re at it.
