The Wizard of Oz 75th Anniversary

Celebrating the 75th anniversary of the greatest movie ever made (of course it is!), the Newport Dunes Resort hosts a free, family-friendly festival of all things Oz. There's a costume contest, a sing-a-long and a screening of the film on the sand—where you can point out all the weird Wizard trivia to your friends. Like how the Cowardly Lion's costume was made from real lion pelts (gross), or how the Emerald City horses were colored with powdered Jello-O (and they kept licking it off), or, perhaps our favorite factoid, that the Tin Man's oil was actually chocolate sauce. So dust off those red sparkly shoes or your old witch's hat and head over to the beach—just leave the lion skins at home, ok?
