Inspired by David Maurer’s book that documented the real-life cons of the grifting brothers Fred and Charley Gondorff, the cinematic version of this complex series of dupes starring Robert Redford and Paul Newman, under the guidance of director George Roy Hill, snapped up the Best Picture Oscar in 1974 and proved once again that the Newman-Redford teaming was gold. The big question now is, can Maverick Theatre director Brian Newell make David Ward’s award-winning screenplay sizzle and sting without the two sexiest men of the '70s in tow? The smart money says to put it all on Newell to win by a nose.
Saturdays, Sundays. Starts: June 1. Continues through July 14, 2013
