'The Dark Crystal'

Billed as the first live-action film without any human beings onscreen, this tale of the planet Thra—a place that exists in “another world, another time, in an age of wonder”—quickly became a cult favorite. Created by The Muppet Show geniuses Jim Henson and Frank Oz in 1982, the dark tale was terrifying to youngsters at the time (no Fozzie Bear to save them), but the story of three races battling it out to mend the Crystal of Truth was adored by the Dungeons & Dragons types who didn’t pine to see Miss Piggy in another installment of “Pigs In Space” (although we can’t imagine who wouldn’t want to see that). Catch it now on the big screen before the long-anticipated sequel, Power of the Dark Crystal, hits theaters, and chant to the Mystics that they don’t use computer-generated animation.
