The Curiosities of Janice Lowry Opening Reception

The art community lost a great talent when, a year and a half ago, OC artist Janice Lowry passed away at the age of 63. In 2007, she was named OC Weekly’s Best Visual Artist—and that same year, a collection of her journals and art was accepted into the Smithsonian Archives of American Art’s permanent collection. This month, Grand Central Art Center honors Lowry by exhibiting more than 100 works, including her well-known assemblages and collages created from items found in thrift stores, flea markets and trash bins. In conjunction with the exhibit opening is the release of a 256-page retrospective, including essays and art from Lowry’s 30-plus-year career.
