While it’s always preferable to hear legendary rock songs performed by their original singer/songwriters, sometimes, well, those people are dead. What’s left are a host of so-so tribute bands—and then guys such as Craig Martin and his Classic Albums Live show. Composed of top-notch, hand-picked musicians, the band churn out an entire iconic LP, note for note, cut for cut, and even add the vocal mumblings and fades that often characterize such ingenious fare. Catch their rendering of Abbey Road this week, and don’t bitch that it’s not Paul or Ringo up there. They may be alive, but geez, they’re tired.
