Tales of Robin Hood, an outlaw and leader of an army of Merry Men, began during the Medieval Period as part of European folklore, but has since become a popular subject in American cinema. Based upon ancient legends of the man known for stealing from the rich and giving to the poor, the first screenplay was developed in 1938 and titled The Adventures of Robin Hood.
