The Adventures of Baron Munchausen
Terry Gilliam cant seem to catch a break. He, perhaps more than any other living filmmaker, has had to fight tooth and nail to capture his vision of a story and have it reach a mass audience. The films hes made have been tampered with, re-edited by studios and even canceled altogether. His first big-budget fantasy, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, was set for a wide release when the studio behind it changed most of its staff and subsequently decided to bury the film. In 1989, it was released on a paltry 48 screens and quickly faded from sight. Ultimately, though, Munchausen got its duethe movie has since found a large fan base and is a cult-ish favorite at midnight screenings and art-gallery movie nights alike.
