'Swan Lake'

There is one obvious reason why a production of Swan Lake might generate more interest now than it would have a year ago: Black Swan, the Academy Award-winning film that featured the 135-year-old ballet at its center. Other than timing, though, don’t look for much else in common. The one-night show coming to the Segerstrom Center for the Arts isn’t the ballet, but actually a musical performance of Tchaikovsky’s “Swan Lake” suite, plus “Hora Staccato” by Romanian composer Grigoras Dinicu and other pieces, for an Eastern European-themed night. And seeing as how the pieces are being performed by the Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra, much of the more provocative action of Black Swan (you know what we’re talking about) would probably be inappropriate for the musicians as well as the audience.
