Summer Soundclash 2011

Acropolis Records puts together a showcase of eight bands you’ve probably never heard of but might be totally into. Badfish, the most seasoned of the pack, travel the country paying tribute to Sublime; Inland Empire’s Natural Heights dabble in Sublime covers, too, but they also play 311 and Bob Marley tunes, as well as their own material. There’s also the Veragroove, a reggae funk outfit complete with dread-headed bass player; Systematic Tragedy, a high-school-mentality hip-hop hybrid who rap about wearing skinny jeans; the Originalites, a local ska band with a seriously wicked saxophonist; Speach Impediments, a reckless, raucous rap group; I&I, winners of this year’s OC Music Award for best hip-hop; and 80 Proof, whose name we really like. Who knows? The next big thing may be on this bill—and you can say you saw them first.
