Star Trek w/ Live Score by Pacific Symphony Orchestra

The 2009 Star Trek reboot—made by the dream team (or perhaps nightmare team?) of J.J. Abrams and Damon Lindelof—had plenty of action, not a little confusion and a few flashes of old-school original series WTF-ness. But it also had a very potent score by Michael Giacchino, then just months away from winning a slew of awards for not just his Star Trek work but for 2009’s Up, as well. Presented live with the film by Pacific Symphony Orchestra, it takes on new life and dynamic, and underscores the human—or humanity—that Star Trek has always tried to celebrate. Come for not just one Spock but—spoiler?—two Spocks, and stay for the irreproducible gravitas of a live score. Also: cosplay it up! Symphony performances never have enough salt vampires in the good seats.
