SoCo Movie Night: Chocolat

All summer long, the SOCO shopping center hosts alfresco movie nights for only 10 bucks. Kids gets in for free, but the screenings bring out a beer garden, food trucks and live jazz, making it a family-friendly event that's actually enjoyable for parents, too. Tonight, SOCO screens Chocolat, which if you've only seen the poster, would seem like a questionable choice. Juliette Binoche coyly offers a chocolate to Johnny Depp's moist and slightly agape lips, leading you to believe the film will roll from one love scene in billowing sheets into another in the tall grasses of the French countryside. But trust us, our 10-year-old self was pretty disappointed. Instead, Binoche and her daughter move to a very religious township in 1950s France and open a chocolate shop. Normally, Europeans are down—except that it's Lent and people with chocolate just piss them off. After some drama, Binoche befriends the whole town. Unfortunately, Depp is only there for marketing—the majority of the movie is devoid of him and his smooth, bare chest. So bring the kidlets after all!
