Small Balls: Table Tennis + House Music

Out of the three things human beings do really, really well—a) connect references of just about anything to a piece of male genitalia; b) murder each other over Jesus; and c) invent mindless time-wasters—that last one is really the most impressive. Enter ping-pong, an upperclass boredom-killer that had to be renamed table tennis by British manufacturers when it finally trickled down to the unwashed masses back in 1880s England (next stop, China). An Olympic sport since 1988, table tennis is actually a ruthless sort of time-waster, regardless of its misleading, cute little balls, and every Wednesday this summer you can pound and bounce those suckers whilst showing off your topspin, corkspin, lob, chop, flick and counter-drive—as well as pour cheap happy hour drinks down your throat and groove your rump to some Daft Punk, Dirty Vegas, Fatboy Slim and sundry other house music titans. Just remember, it’s all fun and games until someone makes one too many testicle jokes.

Wednesdays, 8 p.m. Starts: Aug. 14. Continues through Aug. 28, 2013
