No, not the city of Commerce (not known for its picturesque qualities) but rather the beauty that is commerce in the port of Long Beach, as facilitated by massive ships, cranes and trains. These mechanical monsters may not seem artsy to the average eye, but to photographer William Livingston, they most certainly are. Livingston takes these everyday masses of metal, rust and chipping paint and gives them their fifteen minutes of fame. Each photo allows you to marvel at the brilliance of the prevailing primary colors: yellows, reds and rich greens. Hell, through Livingstons pinhole camera, the deep blues make the waters of Long Beach look similar to Cancun. Well, at least we can dream, cant we?
