Ring of Fire
Johnny Cash continues to posthumously inspire an array of art, and this latest production at the Laguna Playhouse is just as anticipated as any film, gallery show or tribute band that's sprouted up since the musician's death. In Ring of Fire, more than 30 tunes from Cash's catalogue are revived by ten talented singer/actors—everything from the play's namesake track to "Folsom Prison Blues" and "In the Sweet By and By." Dreamt up by Richard Maltby Jr. and William Meade, Ring of Fire is equal parts real-life Cash grit, and polished-up musical theater—and, somehow, magically comes across as an un-sappy night of red-blooded rock n roll.
Tuesdays-Sundays. Starts: Jan. 9. Continues through Feb. 2, 2014
