Regenerative Medicine

Regenerative medicine is the study of why all those lizards you caught as a child could lose their tails one day and have a new one sprout back weeks later. Through tissue engineering, scientists are discovering how to mimic that process with humans for the benefit of burn victims, amputees and others in need of some extra flesh. It may result in more of those creepy lab mice growing human ears on their backs, but it’s amazing nonetheless. Learn about the process, career opportunities in the industry and more from the hands-on exhibit currently at the Discovery Science Center. Who knows? Maybe someday, science will be able to regenerate the job market.
