Reel Big Fish; Streetlight Manifesto

Through record-label fuck-overs, thousands of dollars of equipment stolen (twice) and the overall decline of ska’s mainstream popularity, bands such as Reel Big Fish and Streetlight Manifesto refuse to give up and take “get a real job” for an answer, and thank their coterie of die-hard fans for that. The two bands toured together before in 2006 and 2007, but they reunite for a performance this week in Anaheim, third-wave ska’s Parthenon. The horns are still there, the upstroke guitars and fun-loving antics still present—though now along with original material, both groups lean discernibly on covers of classic-rock songs and Top 40 hits, pushing their staying power up another level.
