Raw Salman

Consider yourself an avid fan of the written word drenched in drama, political intrigue and wit? Then hopefully the name Sir Salman Rushdie is stretched across a binding somewhere in your book collection. Come listen to the prolific novelist and essayist engage in his first lecture at Chapman, where, among other things, he'll be discussing his latest book, The Enchantress of Florence . Since the release of his first novel at the ripe age of 26, Rushdie has embarked on a one-of-a kind personal and professional journey. His provocative fourth book, The Satanic Verses , led to widespread protest by Islamic groups in India and Pakistan. He was forced into hiding after Ayatollah Khomeini ordered his assassination for blasphemous writings against Muhammad and Islam. Despite all the controversy, Rushdie's writing is well-known for its masterful blend of surreal imagery and gripping psychological human reality. Attendees are welcome to bring or purchase copies of Rushdie's novels to be signed after the lecture.
