Rancho Mission Viejo Rodeo

The swallows return annually to San Juan Capistrano, but it's so darn hard to wrestle those little birds, tie 'em down or lasso a few, and then sing about it. Lucky for OC wranglers, cowpokes and rodeo sweethearts that ponies, bulls, steers, and costumed cowgirls and cowboys also migrate to our parts about this time to ride, rope, holler and raise money for charity in one of the nation's best, most lucrative rodeos. This two-day professional athletic competition and cultural extravaganza may be your introduction to an enduring tradition, but the bighearted folks in enormous hats and pointy boots are eager to welcome you, friend, and then lead you in singing along to the genuine honky-tonk tunes of Jimi Nelson and the Drifting Cowboys, whom you've seen at local dance-, alcohol- and equestrian-themed venues. Bring the whole family, but watch where you step.
