Quetzal

For more than twenty years, Quetzal has crafted a uniquely Chicano sound. The Grammy-award winning East LA band meshes son jarocho with an eclectic array of genres. Martha Gonzalez poetically sings in English and Spanish while percussively dancing atop a wooden box known as the tarima. Her husband Quetzal Flores adds effects pedals when plucking away on the requinto. The creative dynamic is in full effect on Quetzanimales, their current crafty concept album. Quetzal is now in studio recording jaroch rock tunes for their follow up due out on Smithsonian Folkways. In the meantime, the band is coming down to SanTana, their home away from home, to help raise funds for El Centro Cultural de Mexico. A fandango is sure to follow ‘til the break of dawn.
