Purple Rain

After Prince's most enjoyable stint on New Girl recently (the episode airing right after the Super Bowl), the Mighty Purple One's mainstream popularity quickly surged again—though he released his last album four years ago, the power of Prince seems undying. For this session of Classic Film Wednesdays, the Regency South Coast Village theater presents the cult smash Purple Rain. The soundtrack dropped a month before the film released back in 1984, and stayed an astonishing 24 weeks at Number 1 on the Billboard charts—once awards season rolled around, the movie nabbed Prince an Oscar for Best Original Song Score. Fun fact: Stevie Nicks was asked to pen the lyrics but when she listened to the music, she found it frightening and had to turn the project down.
