A jack-o-lantern's shelf-life goes pretty quick after Halloween night—that's how the annual Pumkpin Launch came into existence, a fruit-smashing festival courtesy of the Discovery Science Center, where people can satisfy that juvenile urge to wreck carved gourds into a seedy orange mess on the street. Held at Cal State Fullerton's Titan Stadium, the Pumpkin Launch features giant trebuchets and other handmade launching mechanisms, pumpkins flying though the air with impressive force and speed, pumpkin carving contests (for pre-carved squash only), marshmallow catapulting, and gourmet food trucks to feed the hungry masses. This event gets larger every year (thousands attend), so get to the field early and secure your pumpkin-hurtling spot.
