Pride & Prejudice

This year marks the 200th anniversary of Jane Austen’s brilliant treatise on manners, money and marriage in 19th century England, and while numerous modern productions have been mounted via film and television (and one superbly hilarious zombie literary parody), the masses just never seem to tire of Elizabeth Bennett and her search for self. This latest imagining comes from LA Theatre Works and takes the form of a radio play, complete with costumes and set, which should serve to illuminate Austen’s words more effectively than Technicolor close-ups of longing between Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle, although one can never truly get enough close-ups of either. Just thank Lady Catherine de Bourgh that it’s not another musical.
