Pounded Pavement

Santa Ana-based photographer Andy Verostek knows how to get attention. He mailed the Weekly a Nike shoebox, which contained a press release and other info on his show this weekend at the Nomadic Image Gallery. No free kicks, though (bribery doesn’t work on us all the time), but his exhibit looks pretty intriguing. Over a nine-month period, Verostek hoofed it through assorted LA neighborhoods, from Monterey Park to Santa Monica, snapping pics throughout his 32-mile trek. Forty-five rolls of 35mm black-and-white film later, he had completed the first in a series of 50 planned photo expeditions across some of what he calls “the world’s most important cultural urban centers.” No. 2 on his list? Orange County. So, yeah, with 48 after that, he’ll pretty much be doing this the rest of his life.
