Party Arty

Is it just us, or has Orange County seen some pretty exciting museum shows recently? From the Laguna Art Museum’s recent “In the Land of Retinal Delights” exhibit to the Grand Central Art Center’s bizarro “Mel’s Hole,” local fans of contemporary art have had a lot for which to be thankful these past few months. When it rains, it pours! The Orange County Museum of Art in Newport Beach is now hosting the 2008 California Biennial, curated by Lauri Firstenberg, founder and director/curator of Los Angeles’ LAXART. Featuring work from contemporary artists both established and up-and-coming, the California Biennial is mandatory attendance for anyone with even a passing interest in modern art, an event so big and important they can only work up the energy to do it once every two years.

Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, Sundays, 11 a.m. Starts: Nov. 6. Continues through March 15, 2008
