Open Minded

Open Mics are the great leveling ground, participatory democracy in action, a place where with enough courage (liquid or otherwise), anyone can step onstage a nobody and leave . . . well, probably still a nobody. But a nobody who did something, by God. The Que Sera stage has hosted a number of notable bands over the years, and now it’s your turn. The last session featured a couple of almost-acoustic metalheads playing Sabbath-esque dirges; Que Sera bartender Kate and guitar-strumming pal making like the Carter family (A.P. and Mother Maybelle, not Jimmy and Rosalynn); and recent Weekly cover-story subject Lexi Lee, who was coaxed into performing an impromptu set of her heart-bending folk on a ukulele. It was, hands down, the most satisfying evening of music we’ve had in a while.
