Octavio Paz: His Life and Poetry
1990 Nobel Laureate Octavio Paz Lozano is often remembered for his writing that the Nobel committee referred to as impassioned with wide horizons, characterized by sensuous intelligence and humanistic integrity. But Paz was more than just a prize winner; he was a proud writer who exposed human rights violations in communist regimes, an avid poet and a top Mexican diplomat who served as the Ambassador to India. Join linguist and art historian Jacqueline Hahn as she discusses Paz and his connections with other accomplished Latin American artists. Selected Paz poems will be read and analyzed in English and Spanish by the audience and pre-chosen local high school studentsbecause although he is no longer with us, Pazs teachings continue to inspire us.
