Nilu

If there were another attempt at a Lilith Fair, say, Lilith II, featuring the roster of iconic singer-songwriter women from the ’90s on the main stage (Tracy Chapman, Natalie Merchant, Sheryl Crow, Lauryn Hill, Queen Latifah, Neko Case, Emmylou Harris, Chrissie Hynde, Aimee Mann), there would be plenty of young, talented women to fill up the second and third stages. Included in that bunch, alongside college favorites Tristen, Lucius and the Dum Dum Girls, would be the Irvine-raised Nilu who wowed OC Music Awards audiences and is releasing her debut EP at this first-of-the-year show. Imbued with rich vocalizations and moody piano and guitar (usually enhanced by a few cellos), Nilu fits the bill for music lovers who find corp-pop utterly retching. Are you listening—to anything—Sarah McLachlan?
