'Mr. Marmalade'

She’s a 4-year-old with psych issues; he’s her imaginary friend with a coke problem. Together, they’re the main duo of Noah Haidle’s twisted, darkly comical Mr. Marmalade. When the play debuted off-Broadway in 2005, Mr. Marmalade (then-played by the excellent Michael C. Hall) sent nervous ripples of laughter across the theater scene, leaving critics either hating or loving the story of wise-beyond-her-years Lucy and her toxically co-dependent relationship with the porn-loving, abusive figment of her young imagination. See for yourself, but we think it’s pretty awesome—and our imaginary friends were Fraggles.
