Monty Python and the Holy Grail

We promise you we won’t quote a word from this movie in this little pick—because surely anyone going to this screening knows every line by heart. Holy Grail was arguably the first true Monty Python movie, in which an already embattled narrative is enthusiastically dismembered for the sake of laughs both cheap and profound—a process meticulously detailed in that scene with a certain admirably confident knight—and by now it’s pretty much hardcoded into the culture. (And the DNA of the internet, where Grail jokes were the primordial ooze from which the first natively digital humor arose.) So don’t go see this just to see it. Go to experience it in commune with the faithful, and to appreciate all the film-projector-related jokes exactly the way they were intended.
