Mayan Lecture Series
What's the first thing you think of when you hear the words "Mayan Civilization"? Don't answer because we can foretell what you're going to say: some superstitious, misguided hooey about the end of the world—or perhaps chocolate. Join UC Santa Barbara Chicano Studies Professor Dr. Gerardo Aldana as he takes guests through a series of lectures focusing on misinterpretations of the Mayan calendar. The best part of this event (as far as our money is concerned) involves a demonstration using basic mathematics to debunk the myth of the impending 2012 apocalypse. And if it turns out the series' conclusion on the end of times is wrong, we promise to print a solemn and dignified retraction.
