Lord Huron

From the semi-frozen north came Lord Huron, named perhaps to suggest the Great Lake and perhaps to completely confound listeners expecting something as forbidding and heavy as Sir Lord Baltimore. Instead, Michigan-to-LA transplant Benji Schneider found a nice spot to stretch out and take in some sun, and it turned out to be right in between Animal Collective’s loopy mid-period experimentalism and Vampire Weekend’s preppy world-music guitar pop. Put together with appropriately impressionistic lyrics—there are stories in there somewhere, way past the waves and out on the horizon—it’s an engaging if spacy listen, the sort of thing that drifts by like clouds overhead. This week they play with OC band the Union Line.
