Les Misérables

Celebrating its 25th anniversary, Cameron Mackintosh's theatrical triumph Les Misérables performs at the Segerstrom Center this week. Adapted from Victor Hugo’s classic story, this elaborate play follows the lives of unpropitious characters from 1815 up until the Paris June Rebellion in 1832—an ex-convict on the run, a factory worker turned prostitute, and an abused orphan girl. Uplifting stuff, right? But this tale is one of humanity and redemption—and it's no light reading, either. With 20 years of historical fiction plots twisting around, the English versions of the novel run about 1400 pages, and this stage performance takes a good three hours. So sit back, relax and enjoy some of the finest storytelling ever told.

Tuesdays-Sundays. Starts: June 12. Continues through June 24, 2012
