King of Hearts

BB King is getting old—really old—but the thrill isn’t gone from the 83-year-old’s soul. His legendary status in the rhythm and blues world was cemented in the ’50s and ’60s with hits such as “Sweet Sixteen.” If you need proof that he retains such status, consider that in 2003, Rolling Stone magazine dubbed him the No. 3 guitarist of all time, just behind Jimi Hendrix and Duane Allman—and the best part is, you can still hear King’s unmistakable vibrato in person. These days, he sits down during performances rather than stand, but viewing this master of music before he joins those other top dogs in heaven’s blues band will be brag-worthy until you, too, are in your golden years.
