Kendrick Lamar

L.A. rappers Black Hippy are four up-and-comers who joined up to make what the L.A. Times called a “quasi-supergroup” and what juggalo-approved maverick Tech N9ne called the “new N.W.A.,” and if he means ferocious, determined and destined for big things, he’s probably right. Lamar is Hippy’s most agile and arguably passionate rapper, recruited for a verse on Dr. Dre’s continually gestating Detox. Just last month (after a coruscating version of “The City,” Lamar’s collaboration with the Game) Dre, Game and Snoop stepped out on stage with Lamar to publicly and explicitly pass the torch of West Coast hip-hop. Will this Glass House show make a little bit of hip-hop history? Consider this your “I saw him when …” alert.
